How to use the Home Assistant MCP server on iPhone
Add it in Orvena under Settings, then Connections. Orvena is an MCP client that talks to the Home Assistant server over HTTPS directly from your iPhone. Connections are part of Premium Unlock.
What the Home Assistant connector does
Inspect and control the devices, entities, scenes and automations Home Assistant exposes. It uses a long-lived access token and your HTTPS address.
Connect Home Assistant
- Open the menu at the top left, then Settings, then Connections, the row titled "Connect your stuff".
- Tap Connect on the Home Assistant card. Without Premium Unlock the button reads Premium and opens the purchase screen.
- In Home Assistant, add the "Model Context Protocol Server" integration, then create a token under your profile, Security, Long-lived access tokens. In Orvena, enter the address under "Where does it live?", such as https://your-home:8123/api/mcp, and paste the token.
- While it connects, the button shows a spinner. Then the service moves to the list at the top and shows its number of tools. After the app restarts, it reads "Connecting…" until its tools are back.
What you can ask
- Turn off the lights in the living room.
- Is the garage door open?
- Run the good night scene.
What asks before it runs
Each tool from the server asks the first time it is used, and you can allow it once or always. Tools the server marks as destructive ask every time. If the conversation already holds personal data, such as your calendar or an earlier result, Orvena asks before sending it to Home Assistant.
Which models can use it
All four engines on the Models screen get the connector tools: Orvena's own model, Apple Intelligence, Private Cloud Compute and cloud models through OpenRouter that support tools. For Apple's models Orvena converts each tool's schema; if a tool uses something Apple's framework cannot express, Apple's models get that tool without arguments, so use Orvena's model or OpenRouter for it.
Common questions
Can I connect Home Assistant over http:// on my home network?
No. Orvena only sends the token to an https:// address, even on your own network, so Home Assistant needs a valid TLS certificate or a trusted HTTPS reverse proxy. With an http:// address the Connect button does nothing.
Do I need to pay to use Home Assistant with Orvena?
Connections need Premium Unlock, a one-time $14.99 purchase with no subscription. It also adds Private Cloud Compute on iOS 27, cloud models with your own OpenRouter key, voice conversations and scheduled tasks.
Does the Home Assistant server run on my iPhone?
No. The MCP server runs inside your own Home Assistant, and Orvena calls it from your iPhone at the HTTPS address you entered.
Free on the App Store. Its own model runs on your iPhone, and you choose whether anything goes to a cloud model.
