Is Siri AI available in Japan?

Short answer

Yes, in English. Apple's support page names two exceptions for Siri AI: iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in the EU, and Apple Accounts in mainland China. Neither applies to Japan. Siri AI is a beta, and Apple says it is currently available in English.

Siri AI in Japanese

Apple's support page lists English as the only Siri AI language for now, so in Japanese you get the regular Siri. To try Siri AI, set both your iPhone language and the Siri language to English on a supported iPhone with iOS 27, then turn Siri AI on. Apple says this adds you to a waitlist, and wait times can vary.

Apple said on September 14, 2026 that Siri AI will expand to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October.

Apple Intelligence in Japan

Apple says many Apple Intelligence features are available in most regions on supported iPhones. The exception it names is mainland China: devices bought there, and devices used there with an Apple Account set to mainland China.

Japanese is one of the 16 Apple Intelligence languages, so it works with your iPhone and Siri set to Japanese.

An assistant that works in Japan now

Orvena is a free iPhone assistant from Orvena Labs in Denmark. Its own model runs on the iPhone, so it does not depend on Siri AI or on your region, and it keeps working offline once the model is downloaded. It moves calendar events, sets reminders and alarms, finds places, reads your health summaries and searches your photos, and it shows what it did and asks before anything consequential.

Its menus are available in Japanese, and it replies in Japanese. On iOS 27 it can also answer with Apple's on-device model, which supports Japanese, and with Private Cloud Compute through Premium Unlock.

Siri can also hand a question to Orvena in Japan: say "Orvena に聞いて" with Siri set to Japanese, or "Ask Orvena" with Siri set to English.

Orvena needs an iPhone with 8 GB of memory: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max or any later model, including iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo, with iOS 26 or later. Apple's on-device model and Private Cloud Compute in Orvena need iOS 27.

Does Siri AI speak Japanese?

Not yet on Apple's support page, which lists English only as of September 22, 2026. Apple said on September 14 that Siri AI will add Japanese in October.

Which iPhones can run Siri AI?

Siri AI comes with iOS 27 on the iPhones that support Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo.

Does Apple Intelligence work in Japanese?

Yes. Japanese is on Apple's list of Apple Intelligence languages. Set your iPhone language and Siri language to Japanese on a supported iPhone.

What can I use instead of Siri AI in Japan?

Siri AI itself works there in English. Apps with their own assistant are the other option: Orvena runs on the iPhone, works in Japanese, and Siri can still hand it a question.
